A Calculator that Adjusts to Our Poker Style
When playing land-based poker we easily derive our hand and pot odds according to our playing style. But using online odds calculators for poker is different. Some calculators do not consider our playing style options.
A good and accurate odds calculator automatically adjusts settings and calculations to our style of playing, considering our strategies at the table and our play preferences. This way we continue to project our play style online and get hand readings and rankings that suit our play preferences.
For example, we're playing in a tournament Sit and Go and there are 10 players at the table. Usually, to survive this poker variant we have to make every chip count by playing tightly. This is the way to stay longer in the game.
Thus, at the start we set our calculator to a tight bet strategy at pre-flop play. Good odds calculators for poker should have this feature. We just click on the slider and drag the pointer or indicator to "tight" setting. However, knowing the nature of Sit and Go—that many players play loosely and yet bet wildly—we would want to re-set our calculator to aggressive play at post flop.
We should take advantage of a post flop play especially when we are pursuing a hand with a real potential—a high pocket pair, for instance. "Maniac" players who keep calling either strong or weak hands are out there and we don't want to miss out on their generosity. We want to grow a big chip stack in Sit and Go.
A good calculator is not affected by such shifts in settings. Whether we set it for a tight play in the beginning and then set it again for an aggressive play later and then re-set it back to a tight play, the calculator perfectly copes up and its accuracy is unaffected. We may adjust it at any time we need to and it remains accurately going with our style of playing and releasing precise advices.
When we start out at a table with 10 players involved we use a particular setting that fits our preference. Then, at mid play, there would probably be 6 players remaining in the hand. We might, at this point, want to adjust our play and re-set the calculator to another setting. This is true at Sit and Go, ring games, and other types of poker tournaments.
Thus, odds calculators for poker should be adjustable depending on the play style needed in a particular phase of a game.
